Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection

Includes the two remastered, critically-acclaimed, globe-trotting single player adventures from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

The Uncharted series has always been a favorite of mine. Such great storytelling, music, gameplay, atmosphere – the whole package. If I had to rank them (and ranking is hard for me) from best to worst: 2 / 4, 3, 1. It’s hard to compare Uncharted 2 and 4 because 2 is amazing and absolutely iconic in every way, 4 is also amazing while offering so many new things to the series and being an outstanding send off to Nathan Drake’s story. How do you decide?

Anyways, the Legacy of Thieves Collection was a must-buy for me. It’s been a few years since I lasted play 4, and I only beat Lost Legacy once when it came out so my memory of the game wasn’t strong. As a lot of PS5 games go, this outing provides options for Fidelity and Performance modes (a 120fps mode is available, I don’t have a TV for that but it sounds crazy). I played through both games using Fidelity. The improvements aren’t massive, although man does the game look pretty. So many moments where I just took a second to look around at the world and appreciate the improved lighting / shadows. Lost Legacy however didn’t seem to be changed much. In the lost city and some indoor sections you can see how the lighting is better, however I feel like a majority of the game’s colors are greens, grays, and browns and it feels meh in this case. Load times are ridiculously faster on PS5 too.

The gameplay is still solid and outside of the cinematic set pieces, you can truly make the experiences in shootouts feel like a movie in any way you see fit. One major downside I have to mention is that in this collection as a whole, I actually experienced a fair amount of small bugs. 4 would have AI move in very odd ways in random situations during shootouts. Lost Legacy had flickering screens / popups in some transitions from cutscenes, some animations wouldn’t appear correctly, and there were moments where Chloe would fall off a cliff or the train in such a weird fashion where she normally shouldn’t have. That last part may have been in the original game, but the other 2 I was surprised to see occur.

Small bugs aside, I loved playing through these games again. I didn’t include Lost Legacy in the rankings above simply because it’s a short game and can be seen as more of as a spinoff. It’s still a good game, even if I would’ve preferred to see the adventures Sam and Sully went on at the end of Uncharted 4 instead. If you’ve never played any Uncharted game, I highly recommend it.
